Denisse Albornoz

ASSOCIATE, COMMUNITY-CENTERED RESEARCH DESIGN AND LEADERSHIP

Denisse is a researcher interested in the societal impact of technology, particularly on marginalised communities. Using justice and community-centred methodologies, she has co-designed programs with diverse groups, including scientists, artists, and activists, to mitigate online harms and advance the safe and equitable use of technology.

Before joining The Engine Room, she led and supported research at the Royal Society, Tactical Tech, Hiperderecho and the Centre for Internet and Society. Denisse is also a fellow at the Knowledge Equity Lab at the University of Toronto and serves on the Advisory Board of the Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA). In her spare time, she enjoys planning trips to try new food or to explore the nearest mountain or beach.

At The Engine Room, Denisse oversees the implementation of a community-centred approach to the design and execution of our research projects.
