Join us for our report launch event for our latest report: “Exploring a transition to alternative social media platforms for social justice organizations in the Majority World.”
On Tuesday 3 December we’re holding a report launch event for funders, researchers and social justice organizations interested in learning more about what a transition to alternative social media could look like for social justice organizations in the Majority World.
During the call we’ll start with an overview of our research, followed by a conversation with our two speakers (see below!), with time for questions and discussion afterwards.
We’ll be joined by speakers Erin Kissane and Rima Sghaier, both of whom were interviewed for this research, and who will be sharing more about their work and visions for a more equitable digital future. More about each of them below!
- Erin Kissane – writer, researcher, and network tinkerer exploring the role of new social networks and systems across contexts, and interested in the governance of the fediverse and decentralized networks.
- Rima Sghaier – feminist activist, researcher, policy analyst, FOSS enthusiast, and advocate for internet freedom. Rima has worked on issues of digital rights and digital safety in the SWANA region, and advocates for the migration of social justice organizations to alternative social media platforms.
We envision this space as an opportunity for funders to learn more about the experiences of social justice organizations using alternative social media and what a vision for the future could look like.
Likewise, we hope it will be useful for researchers and developers of alternative social media to hear more about Majority World experiences and for social justice organizations to learn more about possibilities for the future.
