Role Description

The Engine Room is seeking applications for our Communications position. We are seeking an experienced, curious, and team-oriented communications person to assume the evolving role of leading communications at The Engine Room.

This person will lead the development of a communications strategy to reach partners, networks, funders, and other thought leaders. They will be  an exceptional writer and creative thinker who is skilled at working with a small and nimble team as well as managing consultants and vendors to create compelling materials and experiences while cultivating and maintaining a vibrant, high-quality online presence. This person should possess a long-term vision for the communications role at TER as well as insight on communications-related challenges and opportunities that align with TER’s mission and plan. Our ideal candidate is committed to our mission and is passionate about the work we do. We are looking for a team member to develop and implement TER’s communications strategy, and who is able to direct organization-wide communications to advance TER’s mission with different audiences and oversee the website, newsletter, and a wide variety of publications and development of collateral. They are experienced in working with social justice NGOs and possess a commitment to mission-driven work. They also desire to be part of an evolving organization and contribute to its growth.

To grow and thrive, it is critical that the new Associate possess these qualities and skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly/succinctly for different purposes on complex topics
  • Ability to cultivate relationships and collaborate with design and communications-related staff, consultants, and vendors
  • Experience working in a remote environment
  • Ability to produce creative publications and respond with creativity to opportunities
